What is Raku?

Unlike traditional pottery firing, raku involves taking the piece out of the kiln while it’s still hot and placing it in a container with combustible materials. This rapid cooling, combined with the interaction of fire and smoke, creates unpredictable and unique patterns on the pottery. Each piece becomes a one-of-a-kind work of art, capturing the essence of spontaneity and imperfection. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, raku embodies a philosophy of finding joy in the unexpected and forming a connection between the artist, the artwork, and the natural elements involved in the process
